Geopolitical Risk Management

In today’s increasingly unstable world with new dimensions of global economic and political volatility, the emergence of non-state actors and a new multipolar world order, asset managers, corporate management and boards need to factor in the impact of major geopolitical developments and macro events on markets and business models. Led by Joachim Bitterlich, former National Security Advisor to Chancellor Helmut Kohl, and Jan F. Kallmorgen, former Investment Manager with Goldman Sachs, EuroAtlantic Associates leverages its global network of former top diplomats, think tankers and policy experts to brief C-Level executives and market analysts in one-on-one formats delivering actionable intelligence. Through our strategic partner firms we are able to provide in-depth policy and business intelligence and access to decision-makers across the world.

Investment Risk Management

In cooperation with the global public affairs firm Interel, the Investor Advisory team is a unique mix of experienced financial markets, corporate M&A and commununcation professionals (Goldman Sachs, Linklaters) working with a group of former top diplomats as well as members of the Interel Global Partnership. It focuses exclusively on the needs of international investors in three types of situations:

Transactions/M&A/FDI/Market Access
Corporate clients come to us for high-level counsel or a second opinion on strategy, communications and political relations before, during and after a transaction, acquisition or market entry. Our concentration is on inbound investments in politically complex industries such as energy, transport, security, tech, Internet, media, defense or finance. Most of our clients are U.S. based, but we increasingly are mandated by organizations from the BRIC countries or the Middle East looking for opportunities in Europe, particularly in Germany as one of the most attractive markets. Working hand in hand with financial, legal and PR advisers our services include
  • Introductions and Networking / Access to decision makers
  • Political Due Diligence / Background checks / Business Intelligence
  • Strategic & CEO positioning, messaging, story telling
  • Financial Communications, defense, crisis communications: Media & Politics
  • Alliance building, 3rd party support, speaking opportunities
  • Governmental & Regulatory Affairs including troubleshooting

Regulated industries
Asset managers and private equity firms invested in regulated industries come to us for an in-depth understanding of political and regulatory processes potentially impacting business models and valuations. Increasingly, policy makers in Brussels, Berlin - as the  de facto EU capital - Paris or London take a pro-active stance in shaping industries. Examples include the consolidation on the EU telecoms market, the push for renewable energies and against nuclear or coal, tougher data protection laws, caps on housing rents, increased capital requirements at banks or higher standards for the car industry.

Fixed Income
Institutional fixed income investors seek our advise on macro political dynamics impacting key economic data such as wages, employment, inflation, interest rates, energy prices etc. Issues we analyze and monitor include fiscal, economic, monetary and financial policies in key EU member states, the U.S. or China, energy policies, the refugee crisis and its impact on budgets, Eurozone governance, public spending in key EU member states or trade policy.
